Author Tom Horn believes the asteroid Apophis will impact the Earth in 2029 – could this be the impact foretold in Revelation 8?
The Asteroid Apophis – the god of Chaos
Apophis is an Egyptian god of chaos. It is also a massive 1,200 foot wide asteroid that will be making a very close approach to earth on Friday, April 13, 2029.
How close? The official estimate from NASA is 19,000 miles from earth, inside the range of some satellites. This illustration from NASA shows the expected path of Apophis. The blue dots represent satellites around the earth.
When scientists first discovered Apophis, they gave it a 2.7% chance of striking the earth in 2029, but they later revised it to only less than only a 1 in 100,000 chance decades from now. According to this article from NASA, scientists are excited because this event, “will be an incredible opportunity for science.” So there’s nothing to worry about, right?
Apophis and Revelation 8
Perhaps not, but there is one wrinkle in this. Tom Horn, who has a history of accurate prophetic visions, had a dream of an asteroid hitting the earth and heard the name “apophis” spoken in the dream. Previously, Tom had a dream of Pope Benedict retiring from his position as Pope and the date it would happen. A Pope had never left the position like this before, making Tom’s vision seem very unlikely. However it happened just as he said it would and when he said it would.
Tom’s dream included details that he later learned are accurate descriptions of what would happen if a meteor struck the earth. These details closely matched the first four trumpet judgments in Revelation 8. He reveals this mystery in his new book, The Wormwood Prophecy, named after the object described in Revelation 8:10-11.
Revelation 8 Appears to Describe Impact Events
Revelation 8 describes objects fiery impacting the earth that resemble a meteor like Apophis. Tom believes the first four trumpets of Revelation are one related impact event as he saw in the dream. (See post Compiling the End-Times Prophecy Roadmap)
First, smaller meteors traveling ahead of Apophis impact the earth. Rev. 8:7 states, “hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.”
Next, a meteor will impact the sea. Rev. 8:8-9 describes, “something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed.”
After that we will see a “star” named Wormwood impact the land. Rev 8:10-11 tells us, “a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters.”
Lastly, we would see the atmospheric effects of an impact. Rev. 8:12 states, “a third of the sun and a third of the moon and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a third of it, and the night in the same way.”
A Cover-Up Behind Apophis?
Could NASA be mistaken, or is there a coverup? I remember a movie called Deep Impact, about a comet hurling towards an impact with the earth. Instead of panicking the public and potentially causing anarchy, the government secretly made arrangements to save as many people as possible. This is not an improbable reaction to the revelation of an impending meteor strike.
In fact, NASA is concerned about near earth objects (NEOs) and potential impacts. It has a dedicated center, CNEOS, which identifies and tracks NEOs and explores solutions. CNEOS also has the NEO Deflection App, a tool to optimize how a kinetic impact could deflect an asteroid heading towards the earth.
According to NASA’s director of CNEOS Paul Chodas, Apophis is one approximately 2,000 currently known Potentially Hazardous Asteroids. Mr. Chodas states on the website, “By observing Apophis during its 2029 flyby, we will gain important scientific knowledge that could one day be used for planetary defense.”
Tom Horn points to the very recently created U.S. Space Force as evidence that the country is concerned about potential impacts from near earth objects. Could the Space Force and/or NASA develop ways to deflect an incoming asteroid without turning it into several asteroids?
Hypothetically, I could imagine such an attempt potentially splitting the asteroid and causing it to come in multiple pieces just like in Revelation.
Far-Fetched or Imminent?
Meteors frequently enter out atmosphere, but few are large enough to create a crater on the earth. Here is a map form the CNOES site that shows recent impacts detected.
It was only a bit over 100 years ago that a 120 foot meteor entered the atmosphere above Tunguska in Siberia. This meteor exploded in the sky releasing the explosive force of 185 Hiroshima bombs. As a comparison Apophis is 10 times the diameter of the Tunguska meteor, which according to Tom would release the explosive force of 65,000 Hiroshima bombs!
One thing is for sure. Revelation 8 makes it clear than an impact event will occur at some point. It is just a matter of time.
The Greater Implications of Apophis Link to Revelation 8
If Apophis will impact the earth in fulfillment of Revelation 8, there is an even greater implication. That being that Jesus will be returning shortly thereafter!
Like many, I believe that Jesus’ ministry occurred at the start of the 4th millennium and that He will return at the beginning of the 6th millennium. There are various estimates on when the sixth millennium begins, I think it is much simpler to calculate 2,000 years from Jesus’ ministry. There is good evidence that Jesus began His ministry in A.D. 26. I won’t go into the support for that now, but here is an article that will provide this information. Jesus’ ministry lasted for about 3 1/2 years, before his crucifixion and resurrection. The 2,000 year anniversary of that event will occur in 2029, shockingly close to the potential impact of Apophis in April 29, 2029.
