Warming relations between certain Arab countries and Israel could indicate God is preparing a “place in the wilderness” to protect the Jews from the antichrist.
A Changing Perspective on Israel
In recent months a number of Arab writers and government officials have seemed to warm to the concept of improved relations with Israel. Here are some recent headlines:

What is Causing the Shift in Opinion?
There appears to be a number of factors causing this shift in public opinion.
For starters, remember the old saying, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Saudi Arabia has been in a cold war with Iran and is nervous about Iran’s influence into neighboring countries such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. They are even more concerned about Iran’s weapons and the possibility of them producing nuclear bombs.
Israel is the only country in the middle east standing up to Iran and using military force to push back their expansion.
Turkey is also aggressively trying to gain influence in the middle east, including Jerusalem, which has Saudi Arabia looking for allies. In a strange way, Israel is the most likely choice.
At the same time, Arabs are losing patience with the Palestinians. The Palestinians have consistently turned down land for peace offers over the decades and chosen destructive policies instead. This behavior have caused them to lose favor with the Arab nations who have been financially supporting them.
While there is a long way to go, there has been a notable warming of relations and increasing acceptance of having Israel as an ally.
The Prophecy of God Preparing a Place in the Wilderness
The world has witnessed the rebirth of Israel and the regathering of the Jews to their homeland. In this seemingly impossible feat, God has shown that He is keeping his promises to Israel as prophesied.
However, prophecies further state that the nations (led by the antichrist) will once again invade Israel and scatter the Jews. Zechariah 14:2 describes the gentile nations capturing Jerusalem, plundering its houses, raping its women and exiling half the city.
But God has promised to take a remnant and protect them in the wilderness as described in Revelation 12:14. “But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.“
So where is this wilderness?
The Location of the Wilderness
While the wilderness is not a tightly defined area, it includes areas east, south and southeast of Israel. As described in the book of Exodus, the Israelites wondered the wilderness for 40 years under Moses.
There is a possible hint in Daniel 11, speaking of the King of the North (the antichrist). Daniel wrote, “He will also enter the beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab and the foremost of the sons of Ammon.” Daniel 11:41
We can speculate that the reason the antichrist does not conquer these regions is because God will create a buffer around the Jews in the wilderness.
Back to the Original Wilderness?
One area of particular interest is further south in Saudi Arabia. This land bordering the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea contains strong evidence that it is the location of the biblical Mt. Sinai. The mountain, know as Jabal al-Lawz has the features such as an altar with depictions of a golden calf, a split rock with evidence of past water erosion, an altar of unhewn stone, toppled stone columns and even a mountain with a blackened summit. The area has a strong oral history around it and locals know it as Moses’ mountain.

Here is a link to a video on YouTube by Ryan Mauro documenting the location as the site fo the biblical Mt. Sinai. The evidence is quite compelling.
Is there a reason why this site has been preserved, almost untouched since the time of Moses? Has God preserved it for a future time?
Most interestingly, the Saudi government plans to develop an autonomous economic and political zone in the area inclusive of Jabal al-Lawz. If they succeed in developing this new city, Neom, it will be like no other city on earth. Such a city would provide resources to a currently desolate area.
Though I don’t believe it has been published yet, Joel Richardson is working on a book presenting a position that Jesus will return to this site initially and then proceed to the Mount of Olives, where He will slay the beast.
Is God Preparing a Place in the Wilderness?
So with Arab public opinion starting to shift in favor of relations with Israel, and with recent discoveries in the “original” wilderness of Exodus, the question comes to mind: Is God preparing a place in the wilderness for Israel?
I believe so. From its improbable creation to its unlikely survival in a multi-front war, God has kept His promises. He has brought His people back to this once desolate land and it is thriving.
As we near the return of Christ, it is not surprising to see God’s hand once again in aligning circumstances to allow an unlikely alliance to form and to prepare a place for His people for their day of need.
