Alliances of the coming antichrist are forming in the middle-east today in amazing alignment with Biblical prophecies as described in Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Revelation.
Current Events are Aligning with Daniel 11 Prophecy
Daniel 11 describes a series of events and battles between two kings with end-times implications. Parts of the vision are fulfilled, leading to the desecration of the Jewish Temple by the Seleucid king, Antiochus Epiphanes. However, because Jesus described this event as future, these battles provide a roadmap of the rise of the final antichrist.
If we are in the end-times, we would expect to start seeing this adversarial relationship developing and alliances forming.
Amazingly, we are.
Events Unfolding Before Our Eyes
In Daniel 11, the King of North is from Asia Minor, which encompasses modern day Turkey. Daniel 7, 8, 9 and 11 all point to the antichrist, the “little horn,” arising from this area. I have covered this topic in previous posts such as The Identity of the Beast of Revelation and Are the Beast and Antichrist Among Us?
Conversely, the King of the South was historically the Ptolemaic Empire, which now encompasses modern day Egypt.
For these prophecies to be fulfilled we would expect to start seeing the following alliances and divisions arise:
- Turkey to be in opposition to Egypt (Daniel 11)
- Turkey to ally with Libya, Sudan (Ethiopia in Ezekiel’s day) and Iran (Ezekiel 38)
- An alliance of kingdoms start to coalesce around Turkey
- Turkey to show growing desire for and hostility towards Israel
As an amazing testament to the accuracy of Biblical prophecy, these dynamics are occurring today as described in the Bible.
For instance, take a look at these recent headlines:
- Idlib [Syria] to Tripoli [Libya]: Turkey moves to dominate eastern Mediterranean
- Egypt announces international anti-Turkey alliance
- Egyptian Tank Platoons Amass on Libya Border Readying to Challenge Turkey
- Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia and Qatar form troubling new alliance
- Secret Deal Results in Saudi Arabia Challenging Turkey for Control of Temple Mount
The Egypt and Turkey Split
One of the most important events that aligned current alliances to Biblical prophecy is known as the Arab Spring. The Arab Spring began in 2011 as a series of protests, uprisings and even full scale civil wars in Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Bahrain. The uprisings in Egypt, Syria and Libya in particular, created major shifts in aligning the “players” of end-times prophecy.
For Turkey and Egypt to fulfill the roles of the kings Daniel 11 they must be in opposition. Initially after the Arab Spring, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Mohamed Morsi was elected President. This election pleased Turkish president Erdoğan, because he has tight connections with the Muslim Brotherhood.
However, less than one year later, after additional protests, the military stepped in and removed Morsi from power. Following the coup, Morsi was replaced with the general in charge of its army, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The military also arrested several Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
This move by the military greatly angered Turkish President Erdoğan because of his Muslim Brotherhood affiliations. Most significantly, the former allies now stand in opposition to each other. As a result of this leadership change the foundation is laid for the struggles yet to come between Turkey as the King of the North and Egypt as the King of the South. For the scriptural references, read Daniel 11:21-45 and Isaiah 19:4.
The Libyan Alliance & Egypt’s Counter Move
As foretold in Ezekiel 38 and Zechariah 14, the antichrist and his allies will lead an invasion of Israel. The alliances of the antichrist described by Ezekiel include Libya, Sudan and Iran. To fill this emerging role, Turkey recently took a significant step towards allying with Libya. Accordingly, this move produced major implications for defining the alliances and adversaries that carry into the upcoming battles of the antichrist.
Specifically, in December 2019 Turkey signed an agreement with Libya to create an exclusive economic zone in the Mediterranean. This zone extends from Turkey’s southern coast to Libya’s northeast coast. Consistent with this accord, Turkey sent an exploratory gas drilling ship into Cypriot waters, angering Cyprus and Greece.
The agreement could thwart a plan between Greece, Cyprus, Egypt and Israel to build a pipeline that would run from Israeli and Greek-Cypriot waters to the Greek island of Crete and into Italy. This pipeline, which would bypass Turkey’s mainland, would cross the economic zone Turkey has established with Libya.
To gain this alliance with Libya, Turkey stepped in to prop up west Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), when it was on the verge of defeat by the opposition. As reported in this article from The Guardian, in support of the GNA, Turkey has sent 8,000-10,000 troops to Libya. Turkey’s close ally, Qatar, supports the GNA as well and to some extent so does Italy.
The Ramifications of the Libyan Alliance
By stepping into the Libyan conflict, Turkey injected itself against Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Russia and France. These countries support the rival east Libya, Libyan National Army (LNA) led by General Khalifa Haftar.
As a result, Egypt countered Turkey’s move. On May 11th, Egypt announced an anti-Turkey alliance composed of Greece, Cyprus, UAE and France. This alliance was created specifically to confront Turkish moves in Libya and the Mediterranean.
The alignment of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt is significant in reference to Daniel 11. Specifically, Daniel 11:30 mentions the “ships of Kittim,” which is also translated as the “ships of Cyprus”. Cyprus and Turkey have been adversarial for some time. According to Daniel, their ships will come against the Turkey in support of the Egypt shortly before the invasion of Israel.
These alliances further place the king of the north (Turkey) and the king of the south (Egypt) in direct opposition of each other and set the stage for the events of Daniel 11.
On the Brink of War?
As I write this blog, events continue to escalate. For instance, in this article from Breaking Israel News, a journalist with the BBC documented Egyptian M1A2 Abrams Tank companies being deployed to the border with Libya. Could we actually see Turkish and Egyptian troops coming to blows soon?
Turkey’s Desire for Jerusalem
According to this article from the Jerusalem Post, as reported by Israel Hayom, the Turkish government is pouring tens of millions of dollars into Turkish organizations operating on the Temple Mount. How is this possible when the Jordan-controlled Waqf controls the Temple Mount?
Recently, Jordan invited Palestinian representatives to join the Waqf. These loyalists to the Palestinian Authority allied with Turkey to gain funding.
In this article, Dr. Mordechai Kedar, a senior lecturer in the Department of Arabic at Bar-Ilan University, provided insight into the parties’ dynamics. He stated the following. “Turkey infiltrated Jerusalem in a very big way, pouring millions of dollars into recruiting Palestinians and setting up his form of Muslim institutions.”
“This includes close ties between Erdogan and the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement which was banned by the Israeli government in November 2015 due to close ties with Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.”
“The Palestinian Authority is, unfortunately, allying with Turkey for the money since they don’t want to lose power and relinquish power to Hamas,”
Dr. Kedar added, “Jordan is willing to ally with Saudi Arabia because of its economic difficulties.”
Lastly, “Israel wants to ally with Saudi Arabia because it is a pro-establishment form of Islam…”
Erdoğan’s Motivation towards Jerusalem
Why is Erdoğan doing this? Keep in mind that the King of the North of Daniel 11, referred to as “Gog” in Ezekiel 38, will invade Israel. Similarly, Erdoğan has not kept his intentions hidden.
In a speech on June 12, 2015 Erdoğan stated, “Unfortunately we the Muslims lost our aim to head towards Jerusalem. The water of our eyes froze making us blind, and our hearts that was destined to beat for Jerusalem is now instead conditioned for rivalry being in a state of war with each other.”
As a result of Turkey’s growing influence, Jordan has become alarmed. To counter Turkey’s entry, Jordan reportedly opened up to negotiations with Saudi Arabia and Israel to allow Saudi representatives to join the Waqf.
Bringing in Saudi Arabia will provide opposition and resources to counter Erdoğan’s influence on the Temple Mount.
The Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and Malaysia Alliance
Though I won’t go into detail in this post, I want to mention an article in the Jerusalem Post. This article explains an burgeoning alliance between Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and Malaysia.
According to the article, the four countries represent “an emergent power nexus, built around a common orientation toward a conservative, Sunni political Islam.”
This an intentional shift away from the tradition Sunni powers of Saudi Arabia and UAE.
The Antichrist Alliances are Forming
It is truly amazing to see current events aligning with Bible prophecy about the antichrist; his alliances and adversaries. As a consequence of these events we will witness the antichrist rise, invade Israel, and set up the abomination of desolation.
In conclusion, through these recent events we are starting to see these alliances arising:
King of the North & Middle East Alliances | King of the South and Middle East Alliances |
Turkey | Egypt |
Qatar | Saudi Arabia |
Libya | UAE |
Pakistan | Cyprus |
Greece |
Those of us watching for the Daniel 11 prophecies will understand the events leading up to the abomination of desolation as they occur. We will be able to explain what will happen before it happens and lead others to believe.
As the angel says in Daniel 12, “Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. “
